Tattoo removal is the process of breaking down the particles of ink underneath the skin. Commonly, this is done with a laser alone, but this can be a costly and time-consuming process. Read more about how it works.
RESONIC is the only FDA-cleared medical device that uses sound in a new and innovative breakthrough technology to remove tattoos faster than ever before. It is indicated for use as an accessory to the 1064 nm Q-Switched laser for black ink tattoo removal in Fitzpatrick Skin Type I-III patients. This technology is called Rapid Acoustic Pulse™, and healthcare providers can use it as a part of the laser tattoo removal process.
RESONIC uses the high-frequency sound waves of its proprietary Rapid Acoustic Pulse technology to alter the way your skin responds to the application of a 1064 nm Q-Switched tattoo removal laser. It allows your healthcare provider to make multiple laser treatment passes in a single office session, while reducing the total number of sessions you need to undergo. The device is placed on top of your skin right after the laser is used, and, while in operation, non-invasively causes 3 major effects under your skin. The Rapid Acoustic Pulse device disperses microscopic particles of ink, disrupts the macrophages, and breaks apart the vacuoles that form under your skin as the laser is applied. By clearing away these cellular barriers, Rapid Acoustic Pulse technology allows you to receive more applications of a tattoo removal laser in one session, without needing to wait for your skin to heal before performing the next pass. This process elevates regular laser tattoo removal by making it faster, less painful, more effective, and less time-consuming. Watch our How It Works video to learn more.
Your physician will use a laser to treat the tattoo, then use a RESONIC Rapid Acoustic Pulse device to disperse the initial vacuoles, ink particles, and macrophages. Your body will naturally begin to remove the dispersed particles, through the lymphatic system. You will repeat this multiple times in one session, based on the physician’s treatment plan. See the results you can expect with RESONIC.
The lymphatic system is part of the body’s natural immune response, and one of its primary functions is to remove foreign particles from the body. After the ink particles are dispersed by the tattoo removal laser and Rapid Acoustic Pulse technology, they are engulfed by fibroblasts, macrophages, and mast cells that gradually remove the ink and clear the tattoo.
Typically, large tattooed areas are divided into multiple treatment sessions. The amount of surface area treated for tattoo removal in one session is dependent on your personal tolerance to the process. Individual treatment programs will vary, and it is best to consult with your physician.
Tattoo removal with RESONIC can be possible in as few as 3 sessions.* Independent clinical studies have demonstrated that 10+ sessions are required, on average, with laser-only removal treatment. Patients have reported experiencing visible results after a single session, with clearance occurring after as few as 3 sessions. Still, ink particle size, tattoo color, depth of ink particles, tattoo age, and location all play a role in the speed of clearance and the number of treatments required to achieve optimal results.
The recommended length of time is dependent on the healing process of the region of skin that was treated. If you wish to receive a new tattoo on an area of skin that you treated with a Q-Switched laser and Rapid Acoustic Pulse technology, it is best to consult with your physician.
Yes. Rapid Acoustic Pulse is an FDA-cleared technology that does not cause any additional effects to the skin, beyond what a standard 1064 nm Q-Switched Laser tattoo removal process does. In fact, adding RESONIC to your tattoo removal journey will decrease the total amount of time that the tattoo removal process takes. If you have specific questions about the safety of RESONIC for you, it is best to consult with your physician.
RESONIC is a non-invasive treatment with Rapid Acoustic Pulse technology that generates breakthrough results without breaking the skin. It is specially engineered to avoid heat, cavitation, or collateral tissue damage. After receiving local anesthesia for the laser, patients have indicated that RESONIC did not cause any incremental pain to the laser tattoo removal procedure.
Tattoo removal with Rapid Acoustic Pulse technology does not necessitate additional aftercare procedures, beyond what laser-only removal therapy requires. Typical guidelines include the following:
However, individual recommendations will vary on a case-by-case basis. For a comprehensive aftercare plan that meets your specific needs, it is best to consult with your physician.

Cellulite is a common skin condition that affects more than 82 million women.† It is characterized by an uneven dimpling in the skin, and often occurs in the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, and upper arms. The appearance of cellulite is caused in part by fibrous septa, which pull the skin in the regions that it dimples.
†Harmon K. Is cellulite forever? Scientific American. May 4, 2009. Accessed February 3, 2021. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/is-cellulite-forever/
Septa are springy bands that connect your skin to the muscle layer underneath. These bands are often surrounded by fat cells, and over time can stiffen due to the effects of aging, weight gain, hormonal changes, or other factors.
As the septa stiffen, they pull against the surface of the skin, creating the puckering and dimpling we call cellulite. Cellulite can happen to any woman at any age, and often has more to do with genetics than weight.
Because there is no consensus on the true cause of cellulite, it’s difficult to say what can actually prevent it. Some things doctors recommend are drinking more water and adding more muscle tone, but these mainly dilute the appearance of cellulite rather than prevent it. Increasing the elastin and collagen content of the skin can help make it thicker and more springy, and may reduce the visible effect of the cellulite itself.
RESONIC is the only FDA-cleared medical device that uses sound in a new and innovative breakthrough technology to non-surgically improve the appearance of cellulite. This technology is called Rapid Acoustic Pulse™.
RESONIC uses the high-frequency sound waves of its proprietary Rapid Acoustic Pulse technology to work with the natural properties of your skin. The device is placed on top of your skin and, while in operation, rapidly cycles sound waves through your skin to non-invasively cause 2 major effects. The Rapid Acoustic Pulse device physically changes the septa that tether the skin down, and also helps restore smoothness to the skin. This process helps free the dimples we call cellulite, allowing the skin to rebound and gain a smoother texture. Learn more by watching our How It Works video.
Rapid Acoustic Pulse technology can improve the appearance of cellulite after just a single session‡ that takes 45-60 minutes.

Typical treatment sessions take less than 1 hour. However, timing can vary with the number of areas to which the Rapid Acoustic Pulse device is applied. For a full discussion of the duration of a treatment session, it is best to consult with your physician.
Skin in the treated area will feel warm to the touch and may tingle slightly. You may also have redness in the treated area for a few hours following treatment. Cellulite results will continue to improve over time, as your skin rebounds from the physical change of the septa.
After a RESONIC treatment, your skin can become smoother and firmer, with significant improvement in cellulite affected areas. For a better sense of the effects of cellulite treatment with RESONIC, please take note of the before and after photos from real patients.
