Electromagnetic Acoustic Resonance Spectroscopy
At a Glance
Electromagnetic Acoustic Resonance Spectroscopy (E.A.R.S.) is a familiar but novel approach to non-destructive-testing for specialty metal products. The technology utilizes a continuous analysis of high frequency acoustic resonances for a powerful test of manufacturing quality. In addition to very high inspection sensitivity, EARS offers the unique ability to do simultaneous measurements of surface flaws, sub-surface flaws, and metallurgical properties in a single test.
Detection possibilities with EARS includes:
- Surface cracks and seams
- Sub-surface inclusions
- Grain structure
- Density
- Hardness
- Residual stresses
- Thickness
- Porosity
- Alloy segregation
- Bonding
